Please introduce yourself, your company and your role…
Sam Williams, Head of IT at Synthesia. I am ultimately responsible for all internal IT, Systems and Software our employees use. This includes workplace technology such as meeting rooms. The ultimate aim for IT within Synthesia is to automate anything and everything within a employees lifecycle at Synthesia using the latest technologies available.
What challenges led you to starting this project?
This project was to design and build a new Global HQ for Synthesia. Taking on requirements from our branding team and user feedback of existing offices and improve them to provide the best working location for our employees. We had a small office in London where we had around 70 desks in a semi-managed office space. This restricted our growth within London and UK due to the limitations and size of the existing office. So a decision was made to invest heavily on a new office location and space, we settled on 20 Triton Street which is now our UK and Global HQ. Our new office now seats around 220 desks at full capacity.
What were you hoping to achieve when you began this process?
Ultimately to provide the best employee experience within an office space whilst still being aligned on budget, branding and utilizing existing equipment from the existing office to the new office.
What led you to choose TwistedPair?
TwistedPair has been our AV Vendor for over 3 years, having already used TwistedPair at a previous company. Their attention to detail, customer requirements and also being adaptable during the build is extremely rare. As with any office build/fit out there are always last minute changes or issues and I know that if this happened Twisted would be happy to help and will always go above and beyond to get the office ready for day 1. The support from Adam Tozer, our account manager from day 1, has been incredible, he listened to our requirements, the way we work at Synthesia and also understanding we wanted to reuse some very new kit from the existing office was never an issue. He worked closely with me to ensure we reused as much of the existing AV kit as possible, saving us valuable budget to be spent elsewhere. Steph and Gavin as project managers never let me down and worked in ways we worked, happily joining our Slack to communicate vs emails and always updating me when needed. The bit that impressed me the most is they made decisions for me knowing how I and Synthesia work – its like they knew what we needed and ran with it, letting me focus on other side of the office build. Every engineer was willing and helpful and even assisting with things outside the normal remit of AV installation.
What impact has the installation had on your users?
The new AV systems, including the All Hands is revolutionary in the way employees now work at Synthesia. Employees are happier to come into the office now as there is more space, better tech and easier networking/collaboration. It has had a real impact on existing employees but even more so on new employees with how impressive the office and the technology is.
Would you choose TwistedPair again in the future and why?
Without a doubt! TwistedPair are not only reliable, technically minded but they also care about their clients. Never leaving a stone unturned or suggesting better ways to do things. I can trust that Twisted will take what I need, run with it and only come back to me with solutions and not problems.
